About this place
The printed menu lists ingredients with quiet simplicity, leaving diners to anticipate how each element will arrive on the plate. Set along Omiya-dori in the Murasakino district, a short walk from Daitoku-ji temple, Raiz approaches modern Spanish cuisine through the lens of seasonal Japanese produce, rendered with precise heat and nuanced sauces.
The cooking highlights the distinct character and seasonality of each component, shifting pace across dishes like a rich pumpkin potage, fragrant seared Spanish mackerel, and succulent Baaku pork. Spanish culinary sensibilities surface naturally throughout—exemplified by a risotto-like creation folding akashi red shrimp and fresh vegetables into broth-steeped rice. Served mid-course, the house-baked high-hydration bread pairs a crackling, aromatic crust with a tender, chewy crumb made for sweeping up lingering sauces.
Thoughtful pairings accompany the progression. Curated chef's choice wine flights, available in sets such as 3 or 4 glasses, highlight Spanish sparkling, white, and red selections that complement each course. Non-alcoholic options are treated with equal care, featuring red grape juice, naturally farmed first-flush oolong tea from Nara Prefecture, and organic black tea from Tsukigase, ensuring a satisfying pairing from start to finish.
Seating is centered around an open counter, providing a calm vantage point to watch the chef work with practiced efficiency. A private dining room with table seating is tucked toward the back. For both lunch and dinner, making a reservation in advance is recommended.
